Brian and I grew up as brother and sister during the Second World War. We had the black outs and the rationing coupons but our father grew fruit and vegetables, we also kept chickens for eggs, which we bargained for butter. My mother worked at dents glove factory and was a model for their leather hats. I met my husband at 16 and Brian was 12 so Les became an older brother to him. When Les did his National Service he was away so I told Brian he could accompany me to the pictures but he had to tidy himself up first. After Brian married Margaret, we would meet every month for a meal.  Margaret looked after him very well through his long illness. He was always cheerful when I phoned him at the nursing home and enjoyed the post cards of north Devon I sent him each month. I will miss him very much but hope he will rest in peace.
